Configuration
There are some configurable features in the Easy Forums Plugin.
The settings page can be found in the Confluence Administration area under the Configuration items section, called “Easy Forums“
There are 4 sections of the plugin that can be customized to your needs.
Customize the Home page and Forum pages.
There are a few general, and specialized settings for the look and feel of the Home page and each Forum page.
General Layout Options
| Show Avatars | User Avatars can be shown or removed from these pages |
|---|---|
| Max Table Entries | Limit the number of entries shown in each table |
| Initial Sort Column | Set the initial sort order for the tables on these pages |
Home Page
| Show Top Contributors | Show or hide the column for Top Contributors |
|---|
As well as the settings above, the Home page can be customized. Typically there should only be one Home page for the plugin. Easy Forums is designed to be contained in its own Confluence Space, and one space only.
Administrators can choose to redesign the Space Home page of the plugin, simply Edit the page and make it look however you want. Some tips you need to follow for this.
- You must leave the Forum Summary Page macro on the page.
- Under the General Settings, see below, check the Show Tables Only
Forum Pages
| Show Page Views | Show or hide the column Topic Views |
|---|---|
| Max Forum Moderators | Set the maximum number of Moderators that can be configured for each Forum.Forum Moderators can be configured individually for each Forum on the Forum page |
As well as the settings above, the Forum pages can be customized. You can provide a template to be used with the Create New Forum button on the Home page. This template will be used for all new Forums created from the Home page, and will not be applied to existing Forum pages. These will need to be manually edited and changed to suit your new layout.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Create a new Global Page Template
- The template must contain the Forum Page macro
- The template must contain the easyforums-forum Label
- Set the new template in the General Settings below
Topic Pages
| Show Labels | Show or hide the Confluence Labels on each Topic page |
|---|
General Settings
| Show Tables Only | When the Forum Summary Page macro and Forum Page macros render on the page, the Macros will only display the tables, which provide listings of the Forum content. All other standard Easy Forums decorations will be removed. This is so Administrators can design the look and feel for the Forums, as described above |
|---|---|
| Customised Forum Template | Select the Global Template to use when Create New Forum button is pressed. As described above, allows Administrators to customize the look and feel of Easy Forums plugin |
| Show Sidebar | Show or hide the Confluence sidebar. Easy Forums was design to have a clean skin and self navigation, but this does not appeal to everyone. |
User Status Fields
Easy Forums has 3 built-in Status types, Active, Read-Only and Hidden. These Status types allow Administrators and Moderators to control access to forums and topics.
Administrators can also add new customized Status types, which can be used if your organization needs to follow a process or workflow steps for Topics.
Simply Create new Status types here and they will be available to select when changing the Status of any Forum or Topic. These are Global Status types and not specific to any Forum.
Setup Confluence Features
Easy Forums has a Global set of moderators who can be assigned to moderate all the Forums. This role is also provided by Confluence Administrators. To set up the user list for the Moderator role, click on the Easy Forum Moderators button and add these global users to the Global moderator list.
